The Walking New York App offers a unique opportunity to explore historical photographs in the vibrant boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens. By utilizing location services, the app identifies the user’s current block and curates a selection of historical images related to nearby buildings or sites. Developed by the La Guardia and Wagner Archives at La Guardia Community College, CUNY, the application draws from significant collections including the New York City Housing Authority Photograph Collection, the Queens Public Library, and the Brooklyn Historical Society’s Photograph Collection.

In addition to viewing these archived images, users have the option to navigate an interactive map displaying various locations where historical photos are available. The app also facilitates sharing experiences on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, enriching the communal aspect of historical discovery. While currently focused on Brooklyn and Queens, there are plans to expand the application’s reach to include Manhattan, the Bronx, and Staten Island, further enhancing the experience of "Walking New York."
